Stone Creek 2002 Merlot reflects the 2002 harvest. The growing season's summer was relatively mild throughout the state, making the grapes mature slowly. Slow ripening enhances the complexity. It was a big crop, and some thinning of the fruit in summer took place. Harvest started late August and early September. The crop showed excellent acid-pH balance at crush.

Tasting Notes

Justin Weibel notes, "A rich, polished Merlot. The fruit flavors fill the mouth with red cherry, blackberry, and black tea impressions. The texture is soft, and the finish very smooth with nuances of milk chocolate and warm toast."

Pairing Suggestions

Stone Creek 2002 Merlot is an excellent choice for a before-dinner red wine accompanying hors d'oeurvres of crostini and oil-cured black olives. It would pair well with braised lamb stew, teriyaki pork tenderloin, or grilled swordfish steaks. Drink now through 2006.
