Stone Creek 2005 Chardonnay, Mendocino CountyHarvest Notes
The 2005 growing season was mostly cooler than average, which allowed the grapes to hang longer on the vines without causing the sugar levels to rise too high too quickly. This allowed the fruit to fully mature yet keep its crisp acidity. The grapes were harvested late in the season due to good weather. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks allowed the wine to retain the crisp acidity, and maturation in neutral oak barrels accentuated the ripe fruit. Mendocino County has warm days like Napa Valley and Sonoma County, but cooler nights, which accentuates the delicate flavor nuances in the grapes, as well as promoting a refreshing crispness. Our H&W Estate Vineyard showcases that classic Mendocino County character superbly. Tasting NotesOur Stone Creek 2005 Unoaked Chardonnay, Mendocino County was fermented and aged without using oak to preserve the delicate fruit character. It has fragrant impressions of pineapple, pear, and ripe apple in the aroma, and nuances of pear, ripe apple, limeade, and grapefruit in the flavors. Drink now through 2008. Pairing SuggestionsIt would be lovely with a cold antipasti platter, poached salmon with a creamy dill sauce, or a picnic with herb-encrusted chicken. Awards & Accolades
